Eligibility criteria
Inclusions
- Autism assessment for individuals under 6 and from 14 to 18 years of age
- Academic assessment including:
- Dyslexia (reading difficulties)
- Dysgraphia (writing difficulties)
- Dyscalculia (mathematics difficulties)
- Cognitive assessments, including:
- Giftedness
- Intellectual Developmental Disorder (previously known as Intellectual Disability)
- Neurocognitive assessment to explore acquired/neurodegenerative conditions
- Assessment for school readiness and learning
- Adaptive functioning assessment to inform support needs
- Executive functioning and memory assessments
- Screening assessments for expressive language, receptive language, and fine motor coordination
- Assessments to inform application for Centrelink Disability Support Pension
- Assessments to inform application for NDIS Funding
Exclusions
- Clients seeking assessment or medication options for ADHD (refer directly to a psychiatrist)
- Comprehensive language assessment (refer to speech and language pathologist)
- Therapy (including Mental Health Treatment Plan)
- Capacity assessments for legal purposes
- Medico-legal assessments (e.g., personal injury, workers’ compensation)
- Parenting capacity assessments (e.g., child custody, fostering or adoption suitability)
- Forensic psychological assessments (e.g., risk of re-offending)
- Psychological evaluations related to legal disputes (e.g., family court)
- Referrals under Workcover, Department of Veterans Affairs, insurance-related referrals, victims of crime, employee assistance programs, or national redress scheme
- NDIS participants who are plan or NDIA-managed
Funding options
Medicare
- Autism assessment: Medicare rebates are available for individuals under 25 years old through the Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders referral pathway. This requires a referral from a psychiatrist or paediatrician and must be for the purpose of exploring an autism diagnosis. The initial referral covers four sessions. If needed, an additional four sessions can be accessed with a further referral, as requested by the assessment provider.
